Navaratna Mala - Rudraksha Beads with 9 Planets Gems Counter Beads

This Navaratna mala has rudraksha beads that are hand knotted with 9 gem counter beads and gold filled accents. The Guru bead drop is a faceted rondelle ruby bead and there is a golden yellow tassel.

This is the standard 108 bead mala composed of 9 sets of 11 beads and then the counter bead. Malas are used to count prayers, japa - repetition of Holy names and mantras, and to keep track of breathing exercises in meditation.

The mala is 40" long with a hanging Guru bead and a 2" golden yellow tassel. It weighs about 4 ounces.

The beads used for the planets are ruby for the Sun, pearl for the Moon, red coral for Mars, aventurine for Mercury, citrine for Jupiter, quartz crystal for Venus, amethyst for Saturn, hessonite garnet for Rahu and chrysoberyl cats eye for Ketu.

Rudraksha beads have a long history of use for sacred malas in several religions. Rudraksha is a Sanskrit word associated with one of Shiva's names, Rudra.
